hankun are exported all over the world and different industries with quality first. Our belief is to provide our customers with more and better high value-added products. Let's create a better future together.

hey…you live just outside Ottawa right?..I go to Loucon metals for my stuff…easiest and usually everything is in stock.

75% of what I use is 14g for my signs…but it depends on the size…sometimes the larger signs need thicker metal…sometimes ones being mounted on a background can be 16g…

it all comes down to experiance and trial and error.

How Thick is My Metal Sign?

We are often asked the thickness of the sheet metal that we use for our metal signs. This can get a little tricky when researching different options so we are happy to shed a little light on the subject.

We Provide You the Thickness for Each Sign

We list the thickness of the material that we use in each separate sign detail page on nightingalemetal.com because each particular product can warrant different thickness material depending on its design and function. For instance, a small tree ornament will not need the gauge thickness of an outdoor sign meant to be staked in the ground. In fact, the former would do better to be thin so that it is lighter weight. You will see in our product information the gauge thickness of the sheet metal that we use. If you have a question about a particular sign just shoot us a quick message on our Contact Us page.

Gauge Thickness Explained

We list gauge thickness of our signs as this is the common measurement unit for sheet metals. We don't want to get too technical here, just to provide some important basic information. Most of our signs are made from 16 gauge, 14 gauge, or 11 gauge carbon steel. There are a few signs that we use stainless steel rather than carbon steel. Generally, the higher the number the thinner the material when speaking of gauge thickness. 16 gauge carbon steel is .0598" thick or 1.518 mm, 14 gauge is .0747" or 1.897 mm, and 11 gauge is .1196" or 3.038 mm. If other materials are used we list it in the product detail pages.

What Thickness is Best for my Sign?

The answer is, there is no single material that is best for all signs. Rather, the thickness should be chosen for each particular sign. Depending upon the sturdiness necessary and the overall weight of the sign, the ideal thickness will vary. We choose the material that provides the best product for you so that you don't have to be an engineer to make a decision on a metal sign!
