Common faults of slurry pumps and their troubleshooting

26 Mar.,2024

The main reasons why the slurry pump suddenly fails to discharge under normal working conditions are as follows:

(1) Impeller or pump inlet/outlet is blocked.

The slurry pump suddenly fails to discharge under normal working conditions, and a large part of the reasons are caused by the blockage of the impeller impeller or the pump inlet/outlet pipe. Since the slurry pump contains a lot of solid particles, some of these solid particles have a large diameter, and the slurry generally has strong coagulation and is easy to form scars, and other flexible foreign matter is mixed in, it will affect the normal entry of the slurry into the pump cavity, the impeller or the inlet and outlet pipes are blocked, and it is also difficult for the slurry to obtain the energy transmitted by the impeller. After this kind of failure occurs, there will be some abnormal noise in the pump cavity, and the current of the motor will also show a significant downward trend.

(2) Cavitation The occurrence of cavitation is related to the blockage of the impeller or the pump inlet of the slurry pump.

Since the blockage of the impeller or the inlet itself will affect the discharge of the slurry pump, the occurrence of cavitation will not only further aggravate the poor discharge of the pump, but also generate noise and severe vibration, causing the overall performance of the slurry pump to decline. In severe cases, the discharge of the pump will be interrupted and the motor current will show obvious jumps.

(3) Severe wear of the flow parts The wear of the main flow parts of the slurry pump has a certain gradual process, and as these flow parts gradually wear, the performance of the pump will gradually decline.

The poor discharge caused by the wear of the flow parts has a long periodicity. In the case of poor discharge, most slurry pumps will run too smoothly, and the motor current will be in a very low but stable state.
