Classification of chrome plating process

 

 

1. Protective - decorative chrome plating:

 

- The plating is thin, bright and beautiful and is usually applied as the outermost layer of a multi-layer plating.

- For protective purposes, a sufficiently thick intermediate layer must be plated on a zinc or steel substrate, followed by a thin chromium layer of 0.25 - 0.5 μm on top of the bright intermediate layer.

 

 

2. Hard chromium (wear-resistant chromium) plating:

- Extremely high hardness and wear resistance to extend the service life of the workpiece.

- It can be used for cutting and drawing tools, pressing and casting molds of various materials, bearings, shafts, gauges, gears, etc. It can also be used to repair the dimensional tolerances of worn parts.

 

 

3. Milky chrome plating Chrome plating layer:

- Milky white, low gloss, good toughness, low porosity, soft color.

- The hardness is lower than hard chrome and decorative chrome, but the corrosion resistance is high, so it is often used in gauges and instrument panels.

 

 

4. Chrome plating with loose holes (porous chromium):

- It is the use of the chromium layer itself has the characteristics of detailed cracks, in the hard chromium plating and then mechanical, chemical or electrochemical loosening hole treatment, so that the crack network to further deepen and widen.

- The surface of the chromium layer is covered with wide grooves, which not only has the characteristics of wear-resistant chromium, but also can effectively store lubricating medium, prevent lubrication-free operation, and improve the friction and wear-resisting ability of the surface of the workpiece. Commonly used in heavy pressure sliding friction parts surface plating, such as internal combustion engine cylinder barrel cavity, piston ring, etc., heat resistance is good, in the 300 ℃ below will not change color.
